How Not to Sound Busted on Hinge’s New Voice Feature

Hinge’s latest feature, Voice Notes has been rolled out with mixed reviews! Some users think it’s a great way to show off your personality and give potential dates a little taste of your true self whilst others think it’s a recipe for disaster.
Voice Notes give users prompts such as “Best travel story” and “I won’t shut up about” which certainly helps people think of something to say! The notes are only 30 seconds long but if you’ve never really recorded your own voice under pressure then that’s actually quite a long time!
One TikTok user @carlyweinstein1 shared the results of someone’s efforts to impress her with their response to the prompt “Guess the song”. The results had her sniggering rather than swooning!
But is that a blessing in disguise? It’s certainly a good opportunity to share your sense of humour, after all, there’s nothing stopping users from uploading comedy skits as their response!
If you’re unsure about your ability to impress or amuse via your voice, here are a few tips to help you win the game.
- Don’t forget to breath
- Slow it down
- Don’t take it too seriously
- Be yourself
- Don’t sing unless you’re amazing or terrible – anything in between is cringey
One thing’s for sure, the addition of voice to Hinge’s platform is going to be more popular than ever as people seek interaction following Covid restrictions.
Oh, and do remember that if you’re using humour, be careful not to tell offensive jokes. It won’t win you any friends as Sean Rad and Justin Mateen soon found out when they had a run in with fellow Tinder founder Whitney Wolfe Herd.
Rad, was the CEO of Tinder at the time and Mateen and Wolfe Herd as fellow founders were dating – it was when they split that the problems began.
Rad showed Wolfe Herd his true colours by refusing to support her even when Mateen turned nasty and called her a “whore” in addition to sending her abusive and threatening text messages.
Wolfe Herd settled out of court and went on to found Bumble – the hugely successful dating app which puts women first.
Can’t say Rad has seen the same sort of success though! First he lost his position as CEO at Tinder and he’s been in and out of the press for a variety of questionable behaviours including his penchant for getting words wrong and his insistence that a random unnamed supermodel was obsessed with him.
Wonder what sort of messages Rad or Mateen might have left on Voice Notes if it had been in existence back in the day? Nothing good in all likelihood!
